A little space does not mean a lot of ideas! We will show how to turn a small plot into a delightful place to relax and give it the look of a respectable garden.
The secret of the successful design of a small garden is a competent design: come up with an interesting idea, around which you can build the entire space, making maximum use of the features of the terrain. It is also important to maintain all the elements in the same style and in a single color scheme – only then the general view of the site will be harmonious.
1. Hints of color
Plant in different parts of the plot of the plant two or three calm shades, harmonizing one with another. The resembling violet bushes, as in the photo, the first in the foreground and the second – on the back, visually increase the space.
2. Supports for plants
A proven design option is to create a perspective. Ideally, if the whole site is not visible right away. Do so that the beauty opens gradually, while moving into the depths of the garden. To do this, use special partitions: hedges, pergolas, screens.
Left: Planted greens for plants, for example arches and pergolas, create vertical structures and a whimsical play of shadows – the space becomes voluminous. A low hedge of boxwood also divides the plot into two parts. Right: Optical illusion creates a lattice for climbing plants, designed as if it is not flat, but solid.
The dimensions of absolutely all elements of design, for example a flower arch, should be proportional to the size of the garden. Otherwise, there will be a sense of disharmony.
3. Winding paths
They help create the illusion of a large garden. After all, the path that hides behind the turn is really intriguing: you go along it and do not know where the boundaries of the garden and what other beauties are hidden behind the turn.
4. All roads lead to the center of the garden
And the space between the trails is occupied by plants – there is only an open corner for rest. Thanks to such techniques, the illusion of the scale of the garden is preserved.
5. Wooden gazebo, combined with a summer house
The irreplaceable thing on the site! The glazed part can be used as a mini-greenhouse. And in the house there is a place for storage of garden accessories, a grill and even a wheelbarrow – there is not much room, much use!
6. A mini alley of birches with beautiful white trunks
It will outline the spatial perspective in the garden and add depth to the space.
7. Multi-level platforms
By creating multi-level sites, you can achieve a visual increase in the garden space.
8. Truth or deception?
It seems that through this bizarre passage in the wall you can get into a corner drowning in greenery. In fact, this is a very high-quality decorative poster. Not a bad idea, is it?
9. Portable fountain
This fountain from different sizes of tanks brings a variety to the garden and, thanks to its compact size, is suitable even for the smallest section.
10. A simple stone partition
It divides the territory into different zones. Thanks to this breakdown, a cozy recreation area was created on several square meters.
11. Islet with flowering plants in the center of the lawn
It breaks a flat plane, overlapping the view of the garden. It is no longer visible at the first glance.
12. A stream with shingle pebbles and stones
Very similar to the natural. It draws attention to itself, distracting from the size of the garden.
13. The effect of a mirror
On a small plot, you can even place an ornamental pond. It is clear that the reservoir will be small, but even this will contribute to the desired optical focus. The calm water surface, like a mirror, reflects on its surface the sky, clouds and everything that is around the pond. Thanks to this effect, the garden seems bigger than it really is. The elongated rectangular shape of the reservoir also plays into the hands: this configuration visually extends the site.
In a small garden, geometric shapes perfectly look: a square, a rectangle and a circle. Elements of such configurations bring order and clarity to the structure of the entire garden area – whether it is a flower garden, a terrace or a pond. And optically to increase the garden will help narrow even paths and straight hedges.
14. Green accents
Choosing green “inhabitants” for a small garden, give priority to low trees and shrubs. This is, for example, the maple orifice ‘Globosum, the catalepa of the bionniform’ Nana ‘or the willow of the Babylonian’ Umbraculifera ‘. Depending on the landing site, these green assistants will be able to effectively decorate the boundaries of the site or to place remarkable accents. As, for example, the Schneewittchen stamping rose: when it blooms, it is simply impossible to tear it away. Especially effectively, this shrub looks at the intersection of optical axes. It turns out a species point.
With the help of small trees with a spherical crown in the garden, you can place bright accents.
15. Original elements of decor
Another step on the way to the successful design of a small area. And the whole point is that unusual sculptures, original plant pots and pretty lamps draw attention to themselves, distracting from the modest size of the garden.
Only accessories should not overload the space, because simple clean lines always look more elegant than a heap of pretentious details.
