Materials Used For Garden Paths

The main reason for dividing pathways and tracks into species is the material from which they are built. Its diversity allows you to choose the best option for the improvement of the area

For arrangement of territory in a rustic style the wood perfectly approaches

Brick is a wonderful material, especially if the house is also built of it

Long and true will serve paving slabs or pavers

In the garden are also appropriate simple and inexpensive trails of gravel

To create unique road tiles you can use concrete

By combining materials, it is easy to achieve a style correspondence of tracks to surrounding natural and artificial objects

Making a DIY Unique Garden Path – Tutorial

Consider three options for creating tracks from affordable and inexpensive materials: cement, brick and wood. Be sure, the result will surprise you

Option #1 – a trail of cement leaves

Lovers of short-cropped lawns will never exchange silky green grass for dense thickets of shrubs or a flower garden, much less give up the path that crosses the luxurious carpet in front of the house. But there is a clever option, in which it is possible to preserve the integrity of the lawn and at the same time arrange a kind of pathway that allows to cross the grass cover directly.

To build a wonderful pathway, you need a conventional cement slurry and a plant that can be found somewhere nearby – burdock, or rather, its large leaves

In a small container, mix the solution according to the instructions and lay out a thick mass on a large burdock leaf. Than not a form for filling

After the sand-cement mixture is completely seized, the sheet is removed. We get the original decorative tile – the main element of the track

It remains to prepare a place for styling. With a scoop or a small scapula, carefully remove the piece of turf so that a shallow fovea

We lay the tile in the prepared nest, then we do the same with the other elements. The path turns out to be light, airy, harmoniously complementing the lawn. On beautiful decorative leaves walk pleasantly and safely even in rainy weather

Option #2 – a solid brick path

Brick is a universal material. You can not think how to make a path in the country, if you have at hand a necessary amount of this durable material, as if specially created for the construction of reliable coatings. The advantage of it is that it is ideal for almost any style. Red bricks, like gray ones, look amazingly against the background of a building made from a similar material, blend perfectly with the tree, harmoniously blend into the natural environment. One tip is to use only special, paving material.

The main stages of construction:

  • Determination of boundaries and extraction of soil.
  • Preparation of sandy-gravel base.
  • Bricks laying.
  • Filling of voids with sand.

The width of the trench depends on the size of the brick and the pattern that will be laid out of them. The minimum track width is 3 feet. We define the boundaries and denote them by pegs with a stretched construction cord. We take out the turf and pull out a shallow trench. The edges of it must be strengthened with boards – they will serve as an additional emphasis for the border in the next two years. Then they can be reached, and the grooves are covered with gravel or pebbles. The basis for a brick consists of two layers. Lower – gravel and sand of coarse fraction. After filling, the gravel mixture must be evenly distributed throughout the length of the track and tamped.

The top layer consists of one sand. Align it along the track, at the same time press it to make the layer dense enough. It is better to compact the pieces of 8-12″, so the base will be more qualitative

The next step is laying bricks along the boards. Before laying each element, dig a small hole, then place a brick in it and adjust its position with a wooden hammer. Products placed on the butt will play the role of curb

Given the pattern of laying, fill the distance between the curbs with bricks, easily pounding them into the sand and regularly checking the level

The last step is filling the gaps between the bricks with sand. Gently pour the sand until it is level with the level of bricks. Fill the path and repeat the last operation. In the next few days, you can adjust the position of bricks

Option #3 – the use of wooden сuts

If you compare a tree to a stone, then it will certainly lose: wood is not distinguished by the durability and strength of granite or marble. Nevertheless, when using garden paths in the country, elements from this seemingly unsuitable material are used. Wood saws, with respect to laying technology, are excellent “bricks” for creating a decorative path in a rustic style.

The old tree can be found anywhere or bought. The trunk is sawed into small segments – from 10 to 20 cm thick. Suitable and thick boughs – small round cuts suitable for decorating the site or the edges of the track

At the planned site, we remove the turf layer and dig a shallow trench

The bottom of the trench is covered with sand, enough of a layer of 2 inch. We weak and level

On the prepared base lay out the saw cuts. Using the level, we give them a horizontal position, for this a wooden sledge hammer or a large hammer is perfect. In some places, voids are formed – they can be filled with small cuts.

Gaps between the wooden elements are covered with sand or earth. In the spring they can be planted with lawn grass or small flowers – so the path will look more artistically

To determine what to lay out beautiful decorative paths in the country, just look around. Do not be afraid in the construction to use their own technological secrets and design solutions – then the villa site will be really unique
